With most Fantasy League's trade deadlines past, who can you pick up from free agency to charge your team towards the playoffs?[caption id="attachment_14898" align="aligncenter" width="558"] Photo Credit: Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports[/caption] Wow what a week we have just witnessed in the NBA. With the playoffs coming right at us, things are sure heating up down the stretch of the 2012/13 season. For myself (and I’m sure all of USSDU NBA fans) the 6th, 7th and 8th seed race in the West is surely the most exciting battle to conclude the regular season. However fantasy doesn't stop no matter who’s playing! It’s always heating up whether you are fighting for a spot in your Finals, or realising that this year wasn’t your year but you don’t want to be the laughing stock of your friends or colleagues. So no matter what position you’re in, check out this week’s fantasy feature and see which areas we can help you improve your game!
My Add/DropsI had zero interest in dropping anyone this week, nor picking anyone up as a matter of fact. With games piling up and my limits starting to max out (mentioned last week), I am looking towards the future and only planning on playing my stars instead of my ‘fillers’ in the team if you want to call it that. Therefore guys like Jrue Holiday, Nikola Vucevic, Greivis Vasquez and J.J. Hickson will be playing rather than Tobias Harris, Joe Johnson, Derrick Williams and Bradley Beal just so I can really use those 'stat stuffer's' to full potential. I feel that if I dropped someone that is still playing reasonably well, it may advantage someone else if they pick up my recycled guy. So there’s no point in dropping anyone at the current time.
Trade Deadline PassedFor most regular leagues the trade deadline has been and gone which could be good for your team. It basically means there can be no collusion or cheating in the league. For example a lower team trades away their top players (to their friends with more successful teams for little return), which can disadvantage other teams. In custom leagues I know there are no trade deadlines, so if that’s you and you’re fighting for a championship spot......it’s not cheating until you get caught. But let’s be honest, if you trade Patrick Beverly for Kobe Bryant someone is going to know something fishy is going on, so play by the rules.
Studs (Stats are Last 7 Days)Kobe Bryant (LAL): 36.8ppg, 5.5rpg, 7.5apg, 3.3 three’s a game, 51%FG. Chandler Parsons (HOU): 27ppg, 3.3rpg, 2.3apg, 5.7 three’s a game, 70%FG. Dwyane Wade (MIA): 24.5ppg, 5.8rpg, 6.3apg, 2.3spg, 59%FG. Al Horford (ATL): 21.3ppg, 10.8rpg, 4.5apg, 58%FG. Brandon Jennings (MIL): 16.3ppg, 16apg, 3.3 three’s a game, 1.7spg, 44%FG. Ricky Rubio (MIN): 13.7ppg, 9.3apg, 7rpg, 5spg.
Duds (Stats are Last 7 Days)Earl Clark (LAL): 6.8ppg, 5.5rpg, 33%FG. Darren Collison (DAL): 7.7ppg, 4.7apg, 2rpg, 38%FG. Caron Butler (LAC): 8.3ppg, 2rpg, 1apg. Danny Green (SAS): 11ppg, 2.7rpg, 1.3apg. Jarrett Jack (GSW): 10.8ppg, 2.3rpg, 3.3apg, 30%FG. Dion Waiters (CLE): 3ppg, 1rpg, 1apg, 0%FG.
Pick Me UpsDerrick Favors (UTA): With Paul Millsap out of the line-up the last couple of games, Favors has been the one to step up to the plate. With Utah also struggling as of late, it’s been the consistency of Derrick Favors that has been the shining fantasy light for the Jazz as their back-up power forward averaged 13.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per contest in the last seven days. Not bad hey? Oh wait, but to go along with that, he’s swatting over three and a half shots a game. Al-Farouq Aminu (NOH): He’s on, he’s off and he’s back on again. Aminu has been a tough one to gauge this year with his inconsistency to play solid basketball. However, he’s currently in one of those happy streaks where he’s getting touches on offence, pulling down rebounds and also smacking away opponent’s shots. He’s averaging 9.5ppg, 12rpg and 3bpg over the last seven days, and we’re looking for that sort of show next week as the Hornets continue to drop games. Marco Belinelli (CHI): As the rest of the Chicago back-court squad is basically dead as injuries are piling up to the ceiling, it’s Marco Belinelli who’s making the most of his playing time. Now scoring just a click over 17 a game he’s finding confidence again with the deep ball. Look for this to continue if Hamilton remains out, Belinelli could slowly find himself with even more minutes going into the playoffs which is great for anyone who owns him as they will be riding his every shot. Jason Thompson (SAC): With the Kings playing for everything but the playoffs, Thompson has been really giving it his all when it comes to effort on the floor. During the past week he’s been showing in the box score too! 16.3 points and 7.3 rebounds is a sure thing to get you noticed by fantasy experts. He shoots the ball really well too, so if you’re in need of some better FG% this could be the perfect addition.
That's the NBA fantasy for this week, who's your tip to step up with the looming presence of the playoffs?
