The NFL has turned pass-heavy over the past few seasons, so lets take a look at some of the passing and receiving title candidates for the 2013 season.Last week we had a look at the 2013 NFL MVP race, now it's time to look at which players at the end of the 2013 NFL regular season will have the most passing and receiving yards. This year’s passing and receiving titles will likely contain a Detroit Lion with the likes of Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford. Let’s break it down and examine the other candidates.
2013 NFL Most Passing Yards
|Brees, Drew (Saints)||5.00|
|Rodgers, Aaron (Packers)||6.50|
|Stafford, Matthew (Lions)||6.50|
|Manning, Peyton (Broncos)||7.00|
|Brady, Tom (Patriots)||8.00|
|Luck, Andrew (Colts)||9.00|
|Ryan, Matt (Falcons)||11|
|Romo, Tony (Cowboys)||15|
|Manning, Eli (Giants)||21|
|Schaub, Matt (Texans)||21|
|Flacco, Joe (Ravens)||26|
|Newton, Cam (Panthers)||26|
*odds correct via Luxbet.com.au as of 2/9/2013Drew Brees: It is very easy to bet on Brees because we know that he and the Saints are going to through the ball A LOT. I don’t enjoy betting against Brees in this category but this year at that price I am inclined to. I am a firm believer in Mark Ingram so I am banking on an improved running game from New Orleans this season. Matthew Stafford Last season Stafford broke an NFL record by attempting 727 passes. While his pass attempts will go down this season the addition of Reggie Bush will improve Stafford’s yardage immensely. Bush has crazy YAC skills and that was on display when he caught five passes for 103 yards against the Patriots earlier in the preseason. Tony Romo Despite all the media scrutiny on Tony Romo he still finished with 4,903 passing yards. With Dez Bryant finally having an offseason with no off-field drama and the addition of some quality offensive lineman, Tony Romo can repeat or possibly better his efforts of last year. It also depends on the health of DeMarco Murray and their run game.
2013 NFL Most Passing Yards Prediction
Matthew Stafford is my bet for the most passing yards this season in the NFL at $6.50. With Megatron and Bush, Stafford has the weapons around him to put up huge numbers.
2013 NFL Most Passing Yards Roughie
With a garbage running game (thanks to injury prone Demarco Murray and no quality backups) and explosive receivers in Dez Bryant and Miles Austin, Tony Romo presents great value at $15.00 and is my roughie bet for the year.
2013 NFL Most Receiving Yards
|Johnson, Calvin (Lions)||4.00|
|Marshall, Brandon (Bears)||8.50|
|Green, AJ (Bengals)||10|
|Bryant, Dez (Cowboys)||11|
|White, Roddy (Falcons)||15|
|Amendola, Danny (Patriots)||17|
|Fitzgerald, Larry (Cardinals)||17|
|Jackson, Vincent (Buccaneers)||17|
|Jones, James (Packers)||17|
|Jones, Julio (Falcons)||17|
*odds correct via Luxbet.com.au as of 2/9/2013Calvin Johnson While I said that I think Matthew Stafford will have the most yards this season this doesn’t necessarily mean it will be Calvin Johnson who is the beneficiary. I can’t see Megatron replicating his record breaking season. The addition of Reggie Bush will eat at his yardage more than people think. He is still the one to beat. Dez Bryant Bryant was a machine in the back end of 2012. In the last seven games he averaged 113 yards a game. Dez Bryant has gotten better and with off-field dramas finally behind him he could actually put it together for a full year. Larry Fitzgerald It’s taken years but Fitzgerald finally has a decent QB throwing him the ball. With a tough division, the Cardinals will be coming from behind in many games, Fitzgerald will benefit from this with some garbage yards much like Megatron last year. The addition of Bruce Arians passing offense is no hindrance either.
2013 NFL Most Receiving Yards Prediction
While I can’t predict against Megatron, I won’t be betting on him because $4.00 is far too short for my liking.
2013 NFL Most Receiving Yards Roughie
That is why I am investing in two roughies. I expect Dez Bryant ($11) or Larry Fitzgerald ($17) to dethrone Megatron as the yardage king in 2013. These two prices present far better value.
Who do you think will take home the most receiving and passing yards titles for 2013?
