Oklahoma City took their first step Wednesday to being crowned NBA Champions with a 105-94 victory over the Miami Heat at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Thunder All-Star small forward Kevin Durant exploded in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 of his 36 points on the night, to go along with his 8 rebounds and 4 assists, helping Oklahoma City to a 1-0 series lead. Although LeBron had 30 points, 9 rebounds an 4 steals Wednesday, he went missing at times when his team most needed him, making one basket over the final 8:15. Miami were up as many as 13 in the second quarter, before the Thunder rallied after the break to tie it up at 60 and piece, and eventually go on with the job. The Heat just didn’t turn up after half time, being outscored 58-40, making a number of critical turnovers, allowing OKC to score 24 fast break points compared to Miami’s 4.
Game 1 MVP: Kevin DurantHad it not have been Durant’s huge fourth quarter, I would have had to have given it to Russell Westbrook, but I simply couldn’t deny KD, who made clutch shot after clutch shot in the final term. Durant’s 30 points off 12-20 from the field and 4-8 from behind the arc, to go along with his 8 rebounds and 4 assists proved the difference between the two teams. Durant was huge in the fourth, scoring 17 of his 38 in a performance that electrified the already vocal OKC crowd. Photo Credit: www.blogs.wsj.com
