It's over folks, that magical day where your teams destiny is decided by the lottery. Will your team trade up, pick a stud or a bust? Here's an early mock! Let's a take a look below at the top 5 and where I think they will end up and why. It's difficult to predict as many teams will trade up/down and there will be plenty of trades/cuts as the new CBA comes into play. Still, it's fun to speculate, here's how I would go with the top 5 picks.
1. New Orleans Hornets - So the Hornets who were recently sold from the NBA to New Orleans Saints (NFL) owner Tom Benson get the number one pick. I can hear the conspiracy theories now. Did Stern include that in the deal of sale? I know that didn't happen but this is fantastic news for a team rebuilding after the loss of perennial all star Chris Paul. Who I would choose? It has to be University of Kentucky forward Anthony Davis. While the Hornets have a gluttony of forwards on the roster now, expect a lot of wheeling and dealing between now and the February trade deadline. It's widely expect that Eric Gordon will leave the team with hopes of ending up in Indiana but things certainly just got more interesting. As it stands he would be suited up at the power forward spot alongside former number 2 pick Emeka Okafor, with Carl Landry and Chris Kaman already on the roster the Hornets can either ease him into it or make some deals to free up some playing time. Expect a lot of change in NO over the coming months, as it stands they are too forward heavy. 2. Charlotte Bobcats - Sorry MJ your tenure as Owner of the lowly Charlotte Bobcats continues to hurt. With the leagues worst ever winning percentage under his belt, many felt it was a sure thing for the Bobcats to get the number one pick, alas this was not the case. Number two in this draft is not such a bad deal and they have two picks in the top 10. After researching this roster I don't know where to begin. They don't have much to work with at all so i'm going to predict a gamble here for Jordan as we all know he likes a flutter or two. I'm going to go with Kansas forward Thomas Robinson. IS he a sure thing? Not really but I like his motor, he played fantastic in the final of the NCAA tournament. I was expecting Andre Drummond to take this spot but with MJ's prior draft history bust (See Kwame Brown) I don't think he is going to have the testicular fortitude to draft on potential again and be ridiculed as he was when with the Wizards. 3. Washington Wizards - The future looks bright in Washington, gone are goofballs Nick Young and Javalee Mcgee and it's time for this team to run and gun. For that reason I have them taking Kentucky Forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Michael is a great athlete, defender and hit's the open shot. As a rookie I expect him to come in and set the tone for this team and show them how to be a professional player, something this team really needs. It's a really big ask for such a young guy but I see great things for this team with MKG on board. 4. Cleveland Cavaliers - The Cavs are in rebuilding mode on the back of the success of last years number one pick Kyrie Iriving and again and I think this team is up for a bit of a shake up. With the number 4 pick I have them selecting Connecticut center Andre Drummond. It's time for this team to get bigger and this pick gives them an athletic big man who needs some serious coaching, a fine with with coach Byron Scott. He needs to be taught a lot, but has a ton of potential and could go even higher. 5. Sacramento Kings - The Kings are continuing to build around high picks in Tyreke Evans and Demarcus Cousins, with a lot of speculation circulating about the future of this team I see them looking forward and going with Florida guard Bradley Beale. They had the Isiah Thomas trial which was surprisingly good but ultimately this team needs to sort out the guard positions. I see them leaving Tyreke at the PG spot and using Beale as the starting SG spot with Thomas coming in as a Jason Terry type scoring 6th man role. So there's my top 5, I expect teams to trade up and down but what do you think, who do you want your favourite team to choose?
