Yesterday brought with it the Orlando Magic being ousted from the NBA playoffs. It also marked possibly the final game for Stan Van Gundy as the Magic's head coach. All season long, the Magic have been the most drama infused team in the league, from claims that Dwight Howard wanted both Otis Smith and Stan Van Gundy gone, to Ryan Anderson winning the most improved player award, which must be pointed out was an absolute sham. In honor of his memory potentially living on, here's a list of some of the best SVG moments of recent times
The Dribbling Machine This moment comes from back in the pre-season, when SVG made an appearance at a basketball camp. It's obvious this guy has been one of the best in recent times at handling players, but who knew this dude could still handle a ball? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21cE2aUbWB0&feature=fvst Probably the two best moments of the short clip come not from the dribbling, but elsewhere. Firstly there's the sounds of shock and awe coming from the people watching and filming that SVG can accomplish basic dribbling tricks. Secondly who could go past the smirk SVG has planted on his face when he finishes dribbling, as if to say "Yeah that's right, I just pulled off a spin move on nobody."
Soft Hands This comes all the way from back in 2009 in a game against the Lakers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgCxAMP3GH4&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLE17E9F6C92C6F392 What SVG tells the referee is right. It was a phenomenal catch. No more need be said.
Handing Over The Reigns To The Interview This priceless video circulated the NBA related corners of the internet very quickly. A brief summary of the series of events that transpire go along these lines.
- SVG is getting pestered over the claim that Dwight Howard wants him fired. He confirms the rumours are true.
- Soon after Dwight Howard comes from nowhere and puts his arm around Stan and they awkwardly talk about stopping Carmelo Anthony in their next game.
- SVG bails as soon as possible.
- Dwight is left to face the claims SVG has just confirmed, as he takes over the terrible interview that SVG knows he has left him with.
Ripping On Raptors In this post game interview, a happy SVG after a double digit victory expresses his confusion over an Ed Davis basket receiving a standing ovation by the Raptors crowd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=OYBHBC8qsgs With the new knowledge that in fact fans would only have received one slice of pizza, SVG becomes even more confused. Luckily, wit prevails and he manages to get in another jab at the lowly team his Magic just decimated.
Brotherly Love This is a touching piece from HBO's show 'Real Sports' showing how much the Van Gundy brothers feel for each other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovtapxoOJgo I can't even imagine how loud a fight between these two as teenagers would have gotten.
Prepping For Retirement This is one of the most stagnant interviews I've ever seen, seriously FOX Sports Florida, this interviewer is terrible. http://youtu.be/gZSTE6oVSKY It's a little hard to see, but if you look close enough you can literally see the hate streaming from SVG's eyes. At least he knows what he wants to do when he grows up.
Thank you Stan Van Gundy for all the classic moments you've provided. Thanks for the turtlenecks, the mustache, the laughs, the constant yelling and for the opportunities for Dwight to impersonate you. Fingers crossed there's time yet to come with you at the helm of the Orlando Magic. If not I can't wait to see which team immediately snaps you up, a coach of your quality doesn't stay unemployed for long. Perhaps the Golden State Warriors are done with Mark Jackson, and you will hereby be known as San Fran Gundy. Who knows what the future holds.
