Welcome to Down Under Digest, NFL Down Under’s weekly news recap article. Every Sunday we’ll bring your attention to some of the biggest events of the past week in helpful, easily digestible bite-sized chunks. Enjoy!
This Week In The NFLSaints Finally Get An Offseason Win It's ok Saints fans, you can breathe now. Your fearless leader will remain a Saint for a while longer. The New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees have finally reached an agreement on a 5 year, $100 million contract after a stand off. The Saints are happy they keep their QB, Brees is happy as he is now reportedly the highest paid player of all time and Who Dat Nation will be happy, after a tumultuous offeason (I promise this is the last time you'll hear about bounties in this report). Terrell Owens In Hot Water Over Child Support These days, no one is really surprised by news about any T.O. news anymore. This tidbit has a bit more serious undertone though. The extremely talented, yet extremely troubled receiver missed a child support hearing on Thursday and could be staring down the barrel of jail time if he misses again. He still qualifies as a better father than Antonio Cromartie. Seau's Family Will Donate Brain The family of Junior Seau has decided to release some of the brain tissue of the late linebacker for study. We can only hope that the family's decision will help to shed some light on the concussion issue in the NFL and to help further improve player safety. The 'Other' Draft Took Place This Week The supplemental draft took place on Thursday and only one played was selected. The Cleveland Browns were impressed enough by Josh Gordon's workout, that they used their 2013 second round pick on the Baylor receiver. All Browns jokes aside, they have completely revamped last years anaemic offence and finally look poised to have some building blocks for the future. Hopefully they can gel before 28 year old rookie QB Brandon Weeden has to call it a career.

Jets West Camp More Secure Than Most Prison Camps New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez hosted his annual Jets West camp in California and if you were there you would be forgiven for thinking that you had stumbled upon a crime scene. The Jets QB hired multiple uniformed and plain clothes officers to keep out those rowdy fans that just want to get a piece of The Chosen One Tim Tebow. The New York Post reports that the stadium was also wrapped in yellow police tape and the policemen had their hands full...keeping out a dozen fans seeking autographs. Greg Jennings Takes A Not-So-Subtle Swipe At Rival Lions Greg Jennings, appearing on NFL Network to comment on the NFC North, has wondered out loud whether or not the division rival Lions can keep their composure enough to improve on their breakout 2011 season. Oakland Ties Up Tyvon The Oakland Raiders have gone ahead and tied up safety Tyvon Branch to a 4-year $26 million contract only two days before the cut-off date for new contracts. Branch had perviously signed his franchise tender. This seems to be the perfect time to remind you all that neither Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears nor Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens have found the new deals they are looking for from their respective teams. Matt Forte is reportedly very close. Lion's DE Cliff Avril however appears to have his doubts.
