Another award, another unanimous choice. Number 1 draft pick Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers is this years Rookie of the Year. Kyrie received 117 first place votes, dwarfing Kawhi Leonard, Iman Shumpert and Kennith Faried who each received the next closest....1 measly vote. Kyrie topped the poll run by sports media and broadcasters beating out fellow rookies in order Ricky Rubio, Kenneith Faried and Kawhi Leonard.
"It was a goal of mine," he said. "I knew as long as we won some games and beat some great team that it was going to come."http://youtu.be/Ifdt1Me4Cy8 After being the number one pick in the draft, Kyrie quickly showed Cleveland fans that he was to be the new face of the franchise. His shooting suprised everyone but what really impressed me most was his ability to not shy away from the competition and embrace the speed and physical nature of the NBA. This guy only played 11 games of college ball in the NCAA and was able to come in and dramatically change one franchise for the better, while showing a blatant disregagard for following the rookie way of learning as you go, this guy bullied his way into recognition, something I don't remeber seeing since Iverson came along all those years ago. While injuries slowed down this rookie class late in the year it was only ever a Rubio vs Irving show, when Rubio went down mid season with a knee inury we knew it was a one man race. Irving is the new go to man in a rebuilding Cleveland team, with a big offseason ahead coach Byron Scott has to be happy with his new point guard and direction this team is going in. http://youtu.be/f9ZBqtph7jo
