Patty Mills has started February in career best form! He has taken full advantage of his extra playing time with Manu Ginobili out due to a hamstring injury.
Mills exploded yesterday against the Charlotte Bobcats scoring a season-high 32 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists in 25 minutes of game time.
The most impressive aspect of the match was his outstanding fourth quarter. When the Spurs were being pushed by the Bobcats Mills lifted and took control, crushing any hope Charlotte had of winning the game.
Mills totally pushed the tempo in the final quarter, he was terrific in keeping the pace of the game at his preferred speed and not allowing the Bobcats defence to get set in transition.
He scored 18 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter and the Bobcats simply didn’t have an answer for him. He comprehensively outplayed Kemba Walker, who fouled out with 20 seconds remaining in the match.
Mills’ shooting efficiency was nothing short of extraordinary; going for 10-13 from the field, 4-5 from beyond the arc and 8-9 from the free throw line. He was draining jump shot after jump shot and it was fantastic to watch.
Although the Charlotte game is the stand out for Mills, his whole February has been great. He has played 5 games so far this month and is averaging 18.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and less than one turnover per game.
It’s been great to see Mills spending all of his energy and creativity on the court, instead of towel-waving from the sidelines. Although, I do miss seeing such beauties as the ‘fire alarm’ and ‘the holster’ after almost every Spurs basket.
Ginobili isn’t expected to return to the Spurs line-up until after the All Star break, which means Mills is going to continue to have opportunities to produce big numbers.
Who else is loving the play of the Patty Mills in February?
