Nathan Jawai was the first indigenous player from Australia to be drafted by an NBA team.
Jawai was drafted 41st overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers after winning the NBL Rookie of the Year in his 2007–08 season debut.
After his draft rights were traded to the Toronto Raptors, Jawai signed a two-year deal in July and finally made his NBA debut in January 2009 after a brief bout of illness.
Jawai only played 6 games for a total of 19 minutes before being assigned a brief stint in the NBA Development League with the Idaho Stampede. He was then traded to the Dallas Mavericks as a part of a four-team deal.
Before playing a game with the Mavericks, Jawai was then traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves where he played 39 games averaging 10.6 minutes and 3.2 points per game.
After various stints in the NBA D-League, Jawai signed a one-year contract to ex-European champions KK Partizan from Belgrade, Serbia in 2010.
