Its almost un-Australian to not love Patty (or Patrick as I think he prefers now) Mills. His excitement, enthusiasm, speed, trademark towel waves, down to earth manner, willingness to run on court cheer on and help teammates is infectious...oh and he does a lot of charity work and reps his indigenous roots on Twitter (@Patty_Mills). The underdog and undersized Spurs backup point guard has gone the hard road to the NBA and cherishes every moment he gets to grace the court with the legends on the Spurs roster. He is certainly on a wild ride as both Mills and fellow Aussie Aron Baynes find themselves on an NBA Finals roster with a chance to take home an NBA ring. Amongst all of this Patty has been in the internet spotlight a lot last week...lets have a look at what he has been up to.
Do you even lift Sir Paul?Patty and Aron decided to get their lift on at the Teams gym hotel recently in Memphis before being confronted by a group of bodyguards. The bodyguards were guarding the closed gym as Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney was getting in a pre-concert workout, ironically just before a group of Spurs players and coaches were going to see him perform. “They knew we just wanted to get a lift after our practice, so they let us in,” Mills said. “We walked in, and there he was, Paul McCartney. Before we could say hi or anything he said, 'Go Spurs go.'" “It was one of those rare moments when I didn't know what to say. A special moment, and now I can tell everyone I lifted weights with Paul McCartney.” Source: Mike Monroe
Van Gundy Praises PattyDuring the Spurs win over Memphis, commentator Jeff Van Gundy heaped some praised on Patty's spirit, enthusiasm, and team first mindset. After the praise the camera zoomed in on Mills and VG had this to say
And there’s my guy. I tell you, if I ever coach again, this is the type of guy you need to keep the energy up through a long, I mean look at this guy.”Looking forward to seeing our guys contribute and cheer on in the finals!
