Get the lowdown of which Aussie landed where in the 2016 NFL DraftThe 2016 NFL Draft will go down as one of the biggest drafts for Australian players ever to date after 4 players were either drafted or immediately signed to teams as free agents. The biggest Aussie news of the draft was Adam Gotsis getting taken pick 63 overall in the 2nd round by the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos which is the highest pick an Australian has ever been taken despite Gotsis recovering from a torn ACL injury. The next selection after Gotsis wasn't until the 7th and last round of the draft when the New York Jets selected Aussie punter Lachlan Edwards (Sam Houston State University) with the 235th overall pick. A twist was added shortly afterwards as the Jets also signed fellow Aussie punter Tom Hackett (University of Utah) to compete with Edwards in training camp for a shot as the Jets starting punter. Aussie guard Blake Muir (Baylor) was picked up by the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent and will play alongside Aussie Jarryd Hayne who will face new competition for carries after the 49ers selected running back Kelvin Taylor with a sixth-round pick. Other Aussies that went undrafted were punters Jamie Keehn, Alex Kinal & kicker Brad Craddock who may find themselves competing for an NFL roster spot closer to the season as injuries take their toll during preseason.
