Week 7 had a little bit of everything as a week in the NFL so often does. Jacksonville shocked the Ravens, the Saints annihilated the Colts, Cleveland and Seattle combined for a whopping 9 points in their duel, and the Chiefs held Oakland to 0 points. Let's get to this week's action for the rest of the results!
Carolina Panthers 33 defeated Washington Redskins 20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ljZu5LrETE&feature=related Quick Analysis: A close game for the first half saw the Panthers leading by three to start the third quarter. Cam Newton provided just enough offense for the Panthers in the second half to beat the slumping Redskins who fell behind by 17 in the fourth quarter, before rallying to a slightly more respectable scoreline. Player of the Game: Steve Smith (Panthers). A really nice partnership with Newton has developed as Smith turned 7 catches into 143 yards.
Cleveland Browns 6 defeated Seattle Seahawks 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_pg1MmPv3g&feature=related Quick Analysis: A hard game to watch even for Browns' fans saw no touchdowns scored. The Browns picked up the win as Phil Dawson kicked two field goals of over 50 yards. The Seahawks struggled to keep possession, having the ball for only 17 minutes on the night. Player of the Game: Montario Hardesty (Browns). Rushed 33 times for 95 yards which kept the ball out of the Seahawks' hands.
Atlanta Falcons 23 defeated Detroit Lions 16 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxS6k6TlQBM&feature=related Quick Analysis: After starting 5-0, cracks are starting to appear in the Lions game. Despite a horrific-looking ankle injury, Matt Ryan did enough to put the Falcons ahead at halftime 17-6. Calvin Johnson caught his tenth touchdown of the season to pull the Lions within 4, but the Falcons held on for their second win in a row. Player of the Game: Matt Ryan (Falcons). Not an amazing day statistically, but Ryan showed plenty of guts to lead his team to the win.
Denver Broncos 18 defeated Miami Dolphins 15 (OT) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcHoQupXhX8&feature=related Quick Analysis: The Dolphins looked like finally cracking their homeground curse as they led by 15 with just over 5 minutes to go in the last quarter. Then Tim Tebow put on a show to tie the game. He threw two touchdown passes in the final 3 minutes and rushed a two-point conversion. The Broncos' defence stepped up in overtime giving Denver the win. Player of the Game: Brian Dawkins (Broncos). 2 sacks and 4 tackles kept the Broncos within striking distance for Tebow to do his thing.
New York Jets 27 defeated San Diego Chargers 21 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIEcgaR22WE&feature=related Quick Analysis: The Chargers put together a very good first half away from home leading 21-10. The Chargers imploded in the second half, Phillip Rivers threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter. The Jets got a momentum-building win receiving big contributions from Mark Sanchez, Darrelle Revis, Shonn Greene, and Plaxico Burress. Player of the Game: Plaxico Burress (Jets). Three touchdowns on the night as the Jets ability to turn possession into points wins them the game.
Chicago Bears 24 defeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers 18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdU34oGYJOg&feature=related Quick Analysis: The NFL took its annual trip to London and the Buccaneers again failed to pick up the points overseas. A huge performance from RB Matt Forte and solid support from QB Jay Cutler and the Chicago defence put the Bears ahead 21-5 heading into the final quarter. Josh Freeman threw 2 TDs in the final quarter, but his four interceptions sent the Buccaneers to their third loss. Player of the Game: Matt Forte (Bears). 145 rushing yards and 1 touchdown from the star RB who is just as good outside the US.
Houston Texans 41 defeated Tennessee Titans 7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH1z09LAmAg&feature=related Quick Analysis: A divisional matchup that quickly turned into a blowout as the Texans powered past the Titans with strong running from Arian Foster and precision passing from Matt Schaub. The Texans were just as good on defence, picking off Matt Hasselbeck twice in the game. Hasselbeck and the Titans have really started slipping since I applauded them a few weeks back. Sorry Tennessee. Player of the Game: Arian Foster (Texans). 115 yards and 2 TDs on the ground and 119 yards and a TD in the air as the Texans win by 34.
Pittsburgh Steelers 32 defeated Arizona Cardinals 20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0J0aJepyhtQ&feature=related Quick Analysis: The Steelers weren't totally dominant in Arizona, but behind Ben Roethlisberger's 361 passing yards and 3 TDs, Pittsburgh sent a message to the rest of the NFL. The Cardinals were always playing catchup and some poor decision-making from Kevin Kolb helped the Steelers to first place in the AFC North. Player of the Game: LaMarr Woodley (Steelers). He sacked Kolb twice allowing the Steelers to pick up the road win.
Kansas City Chiefs 28 defeated Oakland Raiders 0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oFekMt8Cc8&feature=related Quick Analysis: After losing QB Jason Campbell last week, the Raiders turned to Kyle Boller to fill in the breach who promptly threw three interceptions in the first half as the Chiefs raced to a 21 point lead. Oakland turned to new Raider, Carson Palmer, who threw three more interceptions allowing the Chiefs to shut out the Raiders. Player of the Game: Brandon Flowers (Chiefs). Leads the pick-party with two of the six interceptions.
Dallas Cowboys 34 defeated St Louis Rams 7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YE37MiB9co Quick Analysis: In need of a win, the Cowboys squared off against the winless Rams. The Cowboys got a special performance out of RB DeMarco Murray who rushed for 253 yards, 91 yards on a single touchdown run. The Rams couldn't tackle Murray, nor could they score the points needed to keep up with the Cowboys. Player of the Game: DeMarco Murray (Cowboys). Enough said.
Green Bay Packers 33 defeated Minnesota Vikings 27 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4Ee4AoYm_w&feature=related Quick Analysis: The Packers faced their biggest test of the season to remain undefeated when the Vikings took a four point lead into halftime. The champion Packers responded with 20 unanswered points in the third quarter before hanging on in the fourth for their seventh win in a row. Player of the Game: Aaron Rodgers (Packers). A candidate for player of the game everytime the Packers play, Rodgers finished with 3 TDs and 335 passing yards.
New Orleans Saints 62 defeated Indianapolis Colts 7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRFpwKYzUZM&feature=relmfu Quick Analysis: Ouch. The scoreline shows just how bad things have come for the Colts without Peyton Manning. Two years ago they were favourites to beat the Saints in the Superbowl, but now a winless season is a real possibility. Drew Brees and the Saints showed no pity on the Colts as the offense destroyed Indianapolis across the whole four quarters. Player of the Game: Drew Brees (Saints). Many candidates for man of the match, but Brees was as close to perfect as you can get, throwing 5 TDs, 325 yards, and completing 31/35 passes in three quarters.
Jacksonville Jaguars 12 defeated Baltimore Ravens 7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ3QsTbHyvM&feature=channel_video_title Quick Analysis: From the biggest defeat of the week to the biggest shock of the week. The Ravens were expected to easily dispose of the Jaguars as they aimed to keep pace with the New England Patriots. However, a combination of a stagnant Ravens' offense and stifling Jaguars' defence prevented the Ravens from ever getting comfortable as the Jaguars picked up their second win of the season. Player of the Game: Daryl Smith (Jaguars). A big part of the Jaguars defensive effort forcing a fumble and recording a sack on the night.
