Welcome to the Week 3 power rankings, my apologies for missing last week, but rest assured, this will be a weekly article. I need that week in between articles to recover from the beatings I cop on twitter for my rankings. So without any further adieu, here are your week three power rankings. You probably already guessed who would be on top.
1: Green Bay Packers They are the Super Bowl champs and they are also undefeated, hence, they are stay atop the rankings for this week. Have you seen a QB throw the ball more accurately than Rodgers has recently? 2: New England Patriots The Pats are off to their usual flying start behind Tom Brady and his back-to-back 400+ yard games, but that defence worries me, I can see it becoming a significant problem down the track. 3: New Orleans Saints The Saints seem to have a different receiver with a touchdown and over 100 yards receiving each week, making them extremely unpredictable. Drew Brees looks locked in and ready to put last year behind him. 4: New York Jets I am by no means completely sold on the Jets (or Mark Sanchez) but until they lose a game they deserve to be here. They seem to always find a way to make a big play at the right time. Also, has Revis gotten better? That’s a scary thought. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="234" caption="The Lion pounces upon the hapless running back. "][/caption] 5: Detroit Lions Who would have thought we would be here? Two weeks in and the Lions are 2-0 and on fire. With Stafford finally healthy (and being protected) their offence can score at will, but their defence has been equally impressive. Wait until Nick Fairley is healthy and ready to go. 6: Houston Texans The Texans are saying all the right things about not getting too excited early in the season, but you have to be impressed with how much their defence has stepped up from last year. Schaub absolutely must stay healthy. 7: Atlanta Falcons Julio Jones looks like being a star in this league, but they need Roddy White to recapture his form or they will be in trouble. Only narrowly avoided going 0-2 because they knocked out Vick, Matt Ryan made giants leaps in that game. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="162" caption="Philip Rivers unloads."][/caption] 8: San Diego Chargers Expect there to be a lot of screaming done by the Chargers secondary coach, which was lit up and abused by Tom Brady all game. Vincent Jackson showed that when he is on he is basically unstoppable. 9: Philadelphia Eagles If Vick can’t play against the Giants they are in serious trouble. Although Kafka played superb in relief of Vick, if he has to play an entire game against a division opponent, they will most likely lose. 10: Baltimore Ravens A severe lack of pass rush lead to them being abused by the Titans. Think Ray Lewis and Ed Reed will let that happen two weeks in a row? Think again. 11. Pittsburgh Steelers They rebounded extremely well, which is what veteran savvy teams do. That hit on Roethlisberger could have been very nasty. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="170" caption="Tony Romo displayed his toughness on Sunday Night. "][/caption] 12. Dallas Cowboys Admit it; you were waiting for Romo to choke on that game winning drive weren’t you? That was a huge drive for this team and their quarterback, but losing Miles Austin cannot be underestimated. His ability to stretch the field and open up underneath passes for Witten will be sorely missed. 13. Washington Redskins The Skins probably deserve to be above the Cowboys but I still don’t trust Grossman, despite his very solid play. To say this week’s game against the Cowboys is huge would be an understatement. 14. Chicago Bears Their line is beyond terrible, how they expect Cutler to last a whole season behind that Swiss cheese line is anyone’s guess. When Cutler has time, he has the ability to tear a secondary apart. 15. Buffalo Bills Ryan Fitzpatrick is carrying on his stellar form from last year and has the Bills 2-0! Can they finally knock off the Pats? 16. New York Giants This will annoy Brodie but I still don’t trust that defence enough to put them any higher, and don’t get me started on the injury faking to slow down the no-huddle offence. You just showed teams that you are afraid of it, smart move. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="182" caption="No. You don't want to know what he is referring to."][/caption] 17. Arizona Cardinals Kolb looks to be developing a solid rapport with Larry Fitzgerald but that secondary is getting torched each week and teams are starting to pick on rookie CB Patrick Peterson. 18. Oakland Raiders What a change from week one for the men in black. Darren McFadden is unstoppable in the open field and Roland McClain is plugging the middle. Dare I say that Oakland has hit a home run with two first round picks? 19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Josh Freeman has regressed and they struggle to run the ball consistently, but that was a gutsy effort to come back against the Vikings (regressed? Ouch - Editor Dom). 20. Cleveland Browns They could and probably should be 2-0 after blowing it against the Bengals in week one, but they have got to at least attempt to stretch the field. Otherwise teams will continue to stack the box against Hillis. 21. Tennessee Titans What a beat down they put on the Ravens, the defence was markedly improved. If they can get Chris Johnson going, they will shock some more teams before the year is out. 22. Jacksonville Jaguars This week marks the beginning of the Gabbert era in Jacksonville, so it looks like Jack Del Rio will have another excuse for a losing season at season’s end. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="234" caption="Gore doing what he does best"][/caption] 23. San Francisco 49ers Alex Smith looks to have improved his ability to progress threw his reads and accept the check down pass when it is there but they offence still needs to do more because that defence isn’t going to win any games by themselves. 24. St Louis Rams Sam Bradford is a franchise quarterback, and he gets another test this week with the Ravens coming to town. If Bradford wants to take another step in his progression, he needs to carry this team. 25. Denver Broncos The rest of this list is really a crap shoot as they are all terrible, but the Broncos at least have some pieces to make plays. Von Miller looks like turning into a nightmare off the edge. 26. Cincinnati Bengals Andy Dalton looks to have a good grasp of the offence nice and early, which shows he is a hard worker. They may have gotten a steal there. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="179" caption="Is there any bigger challenge for a rookie QB than Green Bay's defense?"][/caption] 27. Miami Dolphins Chad Henne has been much improved this year, but the whole team continues to find ways to shoot themselves in the foot. They had their chances against Houston but couldn’t capitalise. 28. Carolina Panthers Cam Newton has been putting on a show the first two weeks but they aren’t going to win any games if they don’t get their ground game going to protect their young QB. 29. Indianapolis Colts Remember when people used to ask who was the most important player to their team in the NFL? They don’t anymore. With Manning, this team is a SB threat, but without him, they are a threat for the No.1 overall pick. 30. Minnesota Vikings How they managed to blow a 17 point lead at home I’ll never know. They may have the best RB in the world, but they are still 0-2. [caption id="" align="alignright" width="151" caption="Would you play this man 60 million dollars?"][/caption] 31. Seattle Seahawks When your QB is your leading rusher on the day, you know you had a bad day at this office. Speaking of that QB, Tavaris Jackson is doing his best to help this team find their next franchise QB, what a great man. 32. Kansas City Chiefs I hate to say I told you so, but I have been blabbing for years that Matt Cassell was nothing but a product of the Patriots system and now it’s finally on display for everyone to see. Losing Charles is huge for this team, now they are nearly a guarantee for Andrew Luck.
